About

1941 - 1965
Our DNA traces back 80 years to 1941, when Mirhossein Amiri, a young entrepreneur, lost his company, money, and livelihood. The blow was brought on by the inevitable coming of WWII to Iran. Soon after, Mirhossein took to Tehran's Grand Bazaar and cashed in what had left, an antique rug. The sale of that rug was the start of what led Mihossein to become one of the most reputable luxury Persian rug dealers in Tehran's Grand Bazaar. By 1964, he owned a humble but exclusive rug gallery and had gathered a magnificent collection. Sadly, soon after he made a comeback from rock bottom to an accomplished businessman, Mirhissein passed away in 1965. He is our great grandfather.

1965 - 1998
Mirhossein's son, Mirsatar Amiri, our grandfather, carried on his father's legacy and grew the rug gallery to new heights in Tehran. He launched an importing and exporting wing to the business, establishing a link to other countries.

Mirsatar travelled to remote Iranian regions, created relationships with villages and nomadic tribes to find unique and exclusive rugs to add to his gallery. Over the succeeding 30 years, Mirsatar's sons, Behzad Amiri and Mehrdad Amiri re-imagined and evolved the family business. They fueled the rug gallery's reputation of providing exclusive, quality, and unique rugs to homeowners, businesses, and exporters.

1998 - Present
In 1997 Behzad immigrated to New Zealand and, in 1998, launched a satellite Persian rug gallery in Newmarket, Auckland, trading as Made in Persia. Since then, Made in Persia has kept the Amiri tradition of providing exclusive, unique, and quality rugs. Operating from Khyber Pass road, Made in Persia grew to house the most extensive hand-knotted rug collection in New Zealand.

After 22 years of operating, Made in Persia took another step in its evolution and moved online. As an online store, Made in Persia is unlocking new possibilities for customers. It's able to:

  • Provide a more exclusive and unique range to customers
  • Lower prices well below recommended retail prices
  • Provide a seamless return process at no cost to the customer (bringing in the Amazon model!)

We started in the Grand Bazaar of Tehran and found a lovely second home in New Zealand. We strive to provide the best possible service and experience to our customers and clients.
